Why Is My Match Score Low and How Can I Improve It?

Diagnose why a tailored resume scored below 80% and actionable steps to raise your relevance honestly.

Troubleshooting Checklist

  1. Review the Missing Keywords List: Read the amber missing-keywords list from your last tailor. Identify which of those tools, languages, or skills you actually know. The full scorecard needs Pro or the 7-day pass; on Free, work from the job posting text directly.
  2. Add What Is Genuinely Missing to Your Base Resume: Edit your base resume to name the tools and outcomes you really have, then re-tailor. On Pro, the History Quiz asks these questions for you and feeds the answers into every future run.
  3. Add Career Context in Account Settings: Add past certifications, side projects, or volunteer work to your LinkedIn profile context on the Account tab so the engine can reference them.

Why We Do Not Force a 100% Score

A 100% match score is rarely realistic unless you wrote the job description yourself. If a job posting requires 10 years of Kubernetes experience and your background is in graphic design, ResumeSkip will not invent Kubernetes claims.

Aim for a match score between 75% and 90%. That range reliably passes ATS screening filters while maintaining 100% truthfulness during human interviews.
